What is Yin & Pin?

An insight from registered Acupuncturist and Yin Yoga instructor Annie Crosby.

You’ve probably seen somewhere on instagram in the spaces of Yoga and Acupuncture an offering called Yin & Pin. So what actually is it? What is the benefit? And what would your expectations be going into something like this? As an Acupuncturist and Yin Yoga Instructor who facilitates these types of workshops let me answer some of your burning questions to see if this workshop would be a suitable fit for you.

Yin and Pin is a workshop designed to support relaxation and mindfulness, providing an opportunity to slow down and connect with your body and breath. Yin Yoga involves holding gentle poses for several minutes to encourage a sense of ease and calm throughout the body. Combined with the presence of an acupuncturist (aka me), this session offers a guided space to explore stillness and mindful awareness within the framework of Chinese medicine principles.

Each Yin Yoga posture is carefully considered to align with the season. This is how the framework of Chinese medicine is applied to the session. The workshop is curated to target muscle groups that are associated with channel pathways and acupuncture points. For example, the instructor may program a series of Yin Yoga poses that target the Heart Meridian - expect to see a series of backbends that open the chest and are associated with the Heart channel in Chinese Medicine.

We dive into the principles of Chinese medicine and explore concepts such as Qi, Blood, Yin and Yang to inspire curiosity and awareness of oneself within the framework of Chinese medicine. Participants can expect to learn about how each season may influence their body and how to consider applying some of these principles to their daily life.

A Yin and Pin workshop is not a replacement for standard healthcare. However, it can be used as a complementary practice to other support systems. The concepts discussed are based on traditional Chinese medicine philosophy and are not intended as medical diagnosis or treatment. So what should you expect? Expect a holistic practice to support the foundations you already have in place. You might consider Yin and Pin if you’re curious about relaxation, mindfulness and want to learn more about Chinese Medicine.
